Like many audiophiles I also had a dilemma when it comes to listening room. Since I don’t have a separate listening room I have to use my main living room as a listening room. So I designed the room other parameters than “acoustics.” Thats why I had problems it the room design. Here they are:
The Bad: Hi-fi system is not symmetrically placed in the room. Right speaker is quiet close to side wall; while there is a big opening in the left side of the left speaker. And the speakers are quite close to wall; just 15” away from the back wall.
Moreover, unfortunately I don’t have a proper hi-fi rack. The stereo system is integrated with the video system, sharing the same furniture.
The Worse: The room is not a perfect rectangle. And I’m not even mentioning golden ratios and other methods… With this current placing, hi-fi system is placed in the longer side of the rectangle, but as previously mentioned, NOT symmetrically.
The Ugly: Since it is my main living room I have few options to make acoustical treatments. The parallel walls are a little on the bright side and to make the things worse, there are a lot of windows with thin curtains.
Well, a bad listening room, but home sweet home.
