In my childhood I used to think that there are two kinds of museums: The ones with remnants of ancient civilizations and others with dinosaur skeletons. Without this topics a museum should not be a museum. It is easy to understand why I have the opinion of the first type, I’ ve been to Anatolian Civilizations Museum in primary school. But I don’t know why I limited the other museums only to dinosaurs. I was not lucky to see a dinosaur in my childhood and teenage years  but finally I had a chance to realize this dream.

When it comes to museums, Berlin ha the best examples of their kind. One of the most important of these is the Museum für Naturkunde (Natural History Museum). Museum dates back to 1716, but as a museum it is established in 1810. Most of the collection on display is from the 19th century. The dinosaur skeletons also found in that period.

First of all let me just say that, no matter what time of the year you’ll see hundreds of kids in this museum. Prepare yourself to noise and screams. The difficult part is the first half an hour, but after a while you get used to it.

After your entrance to building, the most popular piece of the collection welcomes you:A skeleton of a dinosaur. Almost all of the skeleton belongs to one particular Giraffatitan brancai. Only some of the bones in the tail were taken from another animal at the same size. With a height of 12 m and length 23 m, it is estimated that the animal was around 55 tons. So what shall I say, one can not believe an animal at this size once walked on this planet. To see the giants of past, witness their size is amazing.

You can spend whole day around dinosaurs but don’t forget the rest of the collection. From what I read, there is over 30 million pieces belongs to 10 thousand species. Particularly, don’t miss the section of stuffed animals. Each animal you can think of, is prepared as if its alive and life-like.

There is also a very large portion of the mineralogy collection and must be seen. You can see here the examples of almost 75% of the minerals on Earth. There are even pieces of the meteor fragments.

As I said before, this museum means realizing a childhood dream for me and it was still more than I expected. If I visit Berlin again, surely I’ll come again.
